Ans-: A lower aniline point of a lubricating oil means a higher percentage of aromatic hydrocarbons in it. This is because an oil having high aromatic content will be miscible with aniline at low temperature. The aromatic hydrocarbons have a tendency to dissolve natural rubber and certain types of synthetic rubbers. Thus, lower the aniline point of a lubricating oil, or higher the percentage of aromatic hydrocarbons, more are the chances of deterioration of an oil when it comes in contact with rubber packing, rubber sealings etc.
